The Making
The door is hardwood, with double-glazed units and black ironmongery. The window is fully reversible, made in engineered redwood with a hardwood cill, and purposely aged.

The Finished Piece
Both finished in Osmo oil, with satin glass in the window for privacy.

A fitted bookcase, designed by the client.

Made in oak-veneered MDF in our workshop.

Places for People asked us to supply and fit a new commercial shop front at Tornagrain, for Tornagrain Dental's new premises.

The Making

The Brief
The newly opened The Sun Lounge in Nairn needed a showpiece reception desk, built to the client's own specification.

The Making
Built from flexible MDF over a timber frame, finished in the client's choice of paint, with built-in lighting. The whole desk was made in our workshop.

The Finished Piece
Delivered as a fully finished desk.

The Brief
New doors made to match the property's existing doors.

The Making
Chris made them with Accoya frames and stiles and Tricoya MDF panels. Both carry a 50-year rot guarantee and are very stable, so there is less maintenance and the paint lasts longer.

The Finished Piece
Spray-finished in Gori 99 Extreme, a flexible, breathable paint that lets the grain come through.

The Brief
A bespoke oak door, made on the bench in our Cawdor workshop.

The Making
For us, the finish matters as much as the joinery. We chose Gori 99 for its performance and breathability, and above all for how it treats the wood.

The Finished Piece
Full protection, with the deep texture of the oak grain still the star. No flat, plastic-looking finish.

The Brief
A bespoke staircase in wych elm.

The Making
Made in our Cawdor workshop. Wych elm is a native hardwood with a strong, varied grain, and this stair was a pleasure to work on from the start.

The Finished Piece
The finished stair shows a different character from every angle you look at it.

The Brief
A flat on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow had uPVC sash windows. The aim was proper timber sash and case windows in their place.

The Making
We made, supplied and fitted new timber sash and case windows.

The Finished Piece
After the first night, the client noticed straight away how much warmer and quieter the flat was.

The Brief
A full thermal and aesthetic upgrade for the grand period entrance at Strathearn in Crown, Inverness, keeping all of its original character.

The Making
We stripped back and refurbished the original double doors, and swapped the internal panels for high-performance insulated panels. New stops with built-in draught seals and a new weather bar keep the weather out. We also added secondary glazing to the original fanlight to keep the vestibule warm through the winter.

The Finished Piece
Painted in Gori 99 Extreme Opaque: Farrow & Ball Blue Gray outside and School House White inside. A night-and-day difference in both kerb appeal and warmth.
